The trap of information consumption without action

A common failure mode in learning where we accumulate knowledge without progressing through the KUB - Three stages of comprehension framework.

Symptoms

• Constantly reading new books/articles without applying insights
• Feeling knowledgeable but unable to demonstrate competence
• Collecting information as a form of productive procrastination
• Mistaking recognition for understanding

Why it happens

• Information feels like progress (dopamine from novelty)
• Action requires vulnerability and risk of failure
• Knowledge hoarding feels safer than practice
• Modern information abundance makes consumption endless

Breaking the trap

• Set implementation intentions before consuming content
• Practice "just-in-time" learning vs "just-in-case" learning
• Create friction for consumption, remove friction for practice
• Track actions taken, not information consumed
